We can assist if you're deciding between the iPhone Air 4 and the iPad Air 5.

The iPad Air 5th generation looks almost exactly like its predecessor, the iPad Air 4 (2020), and has many of the same functions. The 2022 iteration's use of the potent M1 processor is the primary distinction between the two slates. The new iPad Air (2022) and the iPad Air (2020), also confusingly referred to as iPad Air 5 and iPad Air 4, are so contrasted with one another.

Price

The starting price for the iPad Air 5 Wi-Fi variant is KD 159,000. It is available in variants with 64GB and 256 GB storage capacities. Space grey, starlight, pink, purple, and blue are among the finishes that are offered. That matches the iPad Air 4's cost, connectivity, storage, and colour selections exactly.

Given that the iPad Air 4 has been replaced by the iPad Air 5 on the Apple website, it is expected that the price of the iPad Air 4 will shortly decline at independent stores and resellers. But if there is still a supply of the iPad Air 4, we predict that it will probably sell for considerably less.

Design

Both tablets have flat sides, a metal frame and back, a glass display, a thin, symmetrical bezel, and a good-quality design. These are slightly bigger than those on the iPad Pro, but they're still just right for your thumbs to rest on.

The only major physical distinction between the two tablets is that the iPad Air 5 (2022) weighs 3g more, which is hardly noticeable. The iPad Air 5 weighs 461g (Wi-Fi) or 462g (Wi-Fi + Cellular), whereas the iPad Air 4 weighs 458g or 460g. These changes in weight are really minor.

Battery power

The 10-hour-and-29-minute battery life of the iPad Air 4 is excellent. According to Apple, the iPad Air 4 and iPad Air 5 have the same amount of battery life. We have great expectations for an M1-powered Air because the M1-powered 11-inch iPad Pro 2021 lasted more than 13 hours in our battery test before running out of power.

You should be able to watch videos or browse the web for 10 hours on each device's 28.6-watt-hour battery while using Wi-Fi, and for 9 hours when using a cellular network. Given that the iPad Air 5 has the more energy-efficient M1 processor, it will be fascinating to see how long the battery lasts.

Performance

The greatest theoretical difference between those two iPad Air versions can be found here. The iPad Air 4 already had the power to take full use of everything iPadOS 15 had to offer, due to its potent A14 Bionic CPU, potentially.

According to Apple, the new iPad Air performs nearly twice as quickly on the GPU and around 60% quicker on the CPU than the previous generation. Additionally, the iPad Air 5 has received an upgrade with 8 GB of RAM, which is twice as much RAM as the iPad Air 4.

Once more, even though it seems like a significant improvement (and it is), iPadOS is fairly well-tuned, so the majority of casual users probably won't notice a change.

Display

There isn't much of a visual difference between the iPad Air 5 (2022) and iPad Air 4 (2020) displays because they are nearly similar. It's not that surprising that both iPad Air versions have a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display given how similar the chassis designs are.

With 264 pixels per inch, you receive the same 2360x1640 pixel resolution. The iPad Air 4 (2020) more than competes with the most recent model despite Apple's reputation for screens with vivid, detailed, and nuanced image quality.

Camera

The iPad Air 5's primary camera looks to be an exact replica of the iPad Air 4's. Both cameras are excellent choices for a tablet and can record videos at up to 4K, 60 frames per second. Apple increased the camera's resolution from the iPad Air 4's 7MP lens to a new 12MP lens with the iPad Air 5.

Additionally, Apple's Centre Stage technology is compatible with the front-facing camera. The camera recognises when someone joins you and effortlessly zooms out to include them in the picture. This is a fantastic tool to have given that people are still working or socializing online.

The verdict

The M1 processor in the iPad Air 5 is what sets it apart most from its predecessor. Without question, the iPad Air 5 is a more technologically sophisticated gadget.

It performs significantly better, having a quicker USB-C connector, and a camera configuration with more features. As far as we can tell, the speakers on the new iPad Air 5 (2022) are identical to those on the iPad Air 4 (2020), but that's not always a negative thing.

Both tablets include four speaker grills, two on each side, however only two speakers, one on each side, are really located behind them. A magnetic charging station for the second-generation Apple Pencil is also included with these two iPads.

Having said that, don't fully disregard the iPad Air 4. For all save the most demanding activities, its own A14 Bionic processor is still good, and this is an excellent chance to get one at a discount. It could be a better option if you're not a really high-end user. You can purchase both incredible Apple products at Nextstore.
