The Surface Pro 8 is still easily identifiable as a member of Microsoft's main line of Windows gadgets, a former contender for our ranking of the best tablets, and one of the finest Windows tablets overall. With these aesthetic modifications and

some of the quickest hardware ever seen in a Windows tablet, it simultaneously seems like a new generation. Additionally, this is the greatest Surface Pro we've used in a while, despite our regret over the loss of several older connectors. Additionally, the brand-new Windows 11 operating system is pre-installed on it.

DESIGN

Thankfully, the Surface Pro 8 offers some much-needed design upgrades. The new graphite colour is the one that stands out the most since it looks amazing. Although the darker hues in this year's selection appear to be Microsoft's focus this year, it looks like the company has been emphasizing lighter colours for its devices in recent years.

The Surface Pro 8 is a good portable tablet because of its tiny and light form, which measures 11.3 x 8.2 x 0.37 inches and weighs 1.96 pounds.

The 2-in-1 looks attractive and feels durable thanks to the black anodized aluminium housing. On the kickstand on the back of the device is a shiny silver Microsoft logo. PORTS

On the right side of the Surface Pro 8, there is a power button, two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C connectors, and a Surface Connect port. On the left side, there are volume controls and a 3.5mm headphone connector. The Surface Pro 8 supports external hard drives, GPUs, and monitor connections. If you want to use the 2-in-1 to play games, you should take advantage of the latter option.

The two USB-C ports and the Surface Connect port are all that are needed for daily use, despite the fact that the few ports initially appear to be a drawback. You can pair gadgets like the Microsoft Ocean Plastic Mouse and a variety of Bluetooth game controllers thanks to Bluetooth connectivity. According to our tests, the display achieves an average brightness of 452.8 nits and reaches 444 nits at the screen's centre. This is quite close to the maximum 450 nits that Microsoft claims the Surface Pro 8 would have. Both bright and low-light conditions allow for clear image transmission.

Battery Life

The Surface Pro 7's battery life, which lasted a pitiful 3 hours and 12 minutes in the PCMark 8 battery test, was one of its major drawbacks. Since we've moved on to PCMark 10, the Surface Pro 8 outperforms it with a battery life of 8 hours and 15 minutes, making it a computer you can use to work all day without needing to plug it in.

This is probably largely because Microsoft decided to follow Intel's Evo program and set the display's refresh rate by default to 60Hz. Knowing that the Surface Pro 8 won't run out of battery within a few hours is comforting given how portable it is.

Performance

It might be challenging to strike a balance between performance and portability when designing a device like the Surface Pro 8. stunte push The Surface Pro 8's internals to appear to have undergone extensive re-engineering by Microsoft, allowing the company to configure the processor with a higher TDP than previous iterations of the tablet increasing it to 23W instead of the 15W of the Surface Pro 7's processor.

The Surface Pro 8's performance against its larger sister, the Surface Laptop Studio, is outstanding. In Cinebench and GeekBench, the tablet is only 12% and 5% slower than Microsoft's purported creative workstation, respectively. All of this is true even though the Surface Pro 8 weighs less and is only slightly thicker than the Laptop Studio.

Despite using the integrated Xe graphics instead of the dedicated Nvidia RTX A2000, the Surface Pro 8 cannot compete in the graphics department. There isn't really a reason to choose the Surface Laptop Studio over the Surface Go 8 if all you need is CPU performance.

Webcam and Microphone

If you haven't recognized it already, video conferencing is more significant than it has ever been. Having a laptop (or tablet) with a strong webcam is a blessing because we all want to look our best in our morning meetings. And fortunately, the Surface Pro 8 features one of the top mobile computer webcams we've ever used.

Additionally, the microphone is excellent, especially given the form factor. The voice comes through smoothly and clearly with little distortion, and the tablet does an excellent job of filtering out background noise, so we don't even need to wear headphones during calls.

Software and Features

The fact that you receive a clean install of Windows 11 free of any bloatware is one of the best things about purchasing any Surface device, including the Surface Pro 8. You won't encounter any obtrusive pop-up ads or pointless programs starting up without your permission because Microsoft installs an entirely clean version of the operating system—unless you install them yourself.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 8 feels like a next-generation device as the most recent in Microsoft's line of 2-in-1 computers. Watching videos on it is a pleasure thanks to its superb visual quality. You won't notice any noticeable lag when using the computer for daily operations like video chatting or web browsing thanks to the strong CPU. Additionally, Windows 11 has a custom-made feel for the gadget.

The Surface 8 Pro's gaming performance leaves a lot to be desired, and its battery life falls short of what Microsoft advertises. Although they cost more, the Surface Slim Pen 2 and Surface Pro accessories work flawlessly with the tablet.
