In 2020, Apple Silicon gave the Mac Mini a makeover. It was transformed from a product that was almost dead into one of the greatest value PCs available. In addition to being updated to the M2 chip in 2023, it also offers an M2 Pro upgrade option. 

Yes, better visuals in the same limited space. Apple's compact, square-shaped PC isn't all that intriguing. It lacks the ultra-powerfulness of the Mac Studio, the modularity of the Mac Pro, and the vibrancy of the 24-inch iMac.

Like you can with a MacBook, you can't really carry it around and work anyplace. But the 2023 redesign makes it clearer that it's Apple's most functional device. 

While the new system's less expensive base configuration does come with slower onboard storage (more on this later), it also offers processing performance that is better than that of its already outstanding grandfather. 

The end result is a desktop system that forces the majority of other general-purpose desktops and midrange workstations to both defend their pricing and the justification for their very existence.

Despite the mini PC industry growing to encompass a vast diversity of really small computers with a broad variety of designs, the Apple Mac mini design is just as remarkable as it has been in years past. The Mac mini is shaped like a square with rounded sides, almost like a symbol reproduced in 3D metal.

Ports

The Mac mini's appearance has seen one significant alteration and that is the variety of ports. On every desktop PC, port selection is crucial, and thankfully, Apple doesn't cut corners. A headphone jack, two USB-A ports, four Thunderbolt 4 connectors, an HDMI 2.1 port, and an Ethernet jack are all included in the M2 Pro model. To be exact, there are two more Thunderbolt ports than the standard M2 and M1 variants, to be exact. 

Because Thunderbolt 4 is a proprietary Intel connection and Apple is moving away from Macs with Intel-based processors, the relationship between Apple and Intel has changed significantly.

All of this means that, even if you're powering a major workstation setup, you can definitely get away without having a second USB-C hub or Thunderbolt dock.

Performance

Performance is the most important factor when it comes to the Mac mini, which is why the Mini's look is such a major concern. The review unit's Pro chip, which increases the GPU's core count to 19, considerably improves the visuals.

Even though we'll be contrasting the Mac mini with other compact PCs, there are some fascinating parallels and distinctions between it and Apple's most recent laptops, the MacBook Air and Apple MacBook Pro, which share the same processing technology.

Performance differences between single and multi-core systems are minimal. The 2023 Mac mini outperformed the M1 Pro in the 14-inch by 17%.

These numbers are a fantastic method to measure speed improvements, but the user experience of the system is what matters most. To that aim, I'll mention that using the M2 model instead of the more traditional, otherwise equivalent M1 model had a noticeable, consistent advantage. 

The Mac mini is still the winner of Apple's most recent M-series microprocessor:

Apple claims that the performance of the M1 Pro's replacement is 20% quicker than the 10-core M1 Pro's, and that the graphics are 30% faster. This Mac mini could be one of my new favorites among the M2 Macs.

The M2 isn't a significant improvement over the M1, but because of the Mac mini's thermals, it doesn't appear to have as many thermal problems as the new MacBook Pros. The M2 is sufficient if you only want to use this computer for routine duties like online surfing, emailing, and making video calls. However, for the majority of video and photo editors, the M2 Pro is a fantastic desktop solution. 

You won't feel as though you are pushing the machine past its capacity. The additional ports are also always nice. Apple is addressing a significant and critical gap that it had previously overlooked.

However, unlike a conventional desktop PC, these Macs still don't provide many possibilities for future updates, despite how simple they are to use.

Even with the slower storage speed, the new Mac Mini available at NextStore makes this system more accessible and well-suited to more people than ever. This is almost probably the desktop to get if you need one for your home or place of work.
